One of the things I love about Mouthwashing and Alien, is that both utilize the Cassandra trope. For those who don't know, Cassandra was (in like, very superficial terms) a priestess who rejected Apollo, and as punishment for her rejection, he granted her the curse of having accurate and precise predictions, but the catch is that no one would believe her.

Both Anya and Ripley warned against the threat on the ship. Both saw the dead pixel. Both fought it. Within Ripley's victory, when everyone failed her, she had the equipment to protect herself (that doesn't mean that the people who failed her are entirely spared but yeah). And that victory correlates to Anya's doom. Anya was not only denied access to keep herself safe, she also didn't have anywhere else to go. Everyone failed her, she didn't have access to the gun. Then, she was burdened with even more responsibility (forced). Everyone failed her again, and her only triumph, her only way to save herself and regain control of her own life, was to terminate it.

Both Alien and Mouthwashing bring the critique of conditioning for workers who depend on people with higher rankings. Anya, Daisuke and Swansea had no choice but to trust the company. Maybe not entirely but there was nothing else to do. Their decision over their own bodies and work was butchered by the objective of the company. Who is going to miss a common engineer, one recent intern and a nurse? No one.

Curly, so conditioned by the higher ranking, didn't take responsibility because he wasn't aware that he had to, in te first place. If it doesn't interfere with the end goal, why even pay attention in the first place? Of course he would prioritize Jimmy over Anya, even unconsciously, she was nothing but a common nurse, Jimmy was his friend and copilot.

Ripley and Anya were left alone with the alien and threat. Ripley was left with equipment and had regained control upon the freedom of those who stood on her way. Anya was put like meat hooked on metal for the predator to eat. The placation of the anger of the man who's goal is to rise and rise until he crushes everything else.

Jimmy crashed the ship. Crashed their lives. Crashed Anya. Anya wasn't given the axe, wasn't given the gun. So she knew that she had to die for her to step out of the way of the weapons, so they couldn't reach her.
